Chamber Music Amici began with five core musicians: Pilar Bradshaw, violin; Amy Goeser Kolb, oboe; Steven Pologe, cello; Sharon Schuman, violin; and Victor Steinhardt, piano. With the motto, “Creating community through great music,” the mission of Chamber Music Amici has always been to produce excellent, affordable chamber music concerts which appeal to all ages. We invite other musicians to join us in performance as needed.

The opening of the Richard E. Wildish Community Theater in 2006 in Springfield, Oregon, with its near-perfect acoustics and affordable prices, made it possible to create Chamber Music Amici. Our serendipitous discovery of this hall came in 2007 when Sharon Schuman organized a string quartet to perform the “American” string quartet of Antonín Dvořák. That sold-old performance, after which enthusiastic audience members streamed on stage to praise the acoustics in every part of the house, led the founding core musicians to imagine forming a resident company. The Board of Directors of the Wildish Community Theater agreed.

We were able to launch a new arts organization in this community only because of the financial support of generous individuals and businesses. They made it possible for us to give concerts and to reach out with steeply discounted student tickets and special events for young people, to help create a new generation of chamber music lovers.
